Skip the Christmas Gloom

An interesting observation here: Why are so many gloomy and emotionally-taxing movies released during the holiday season? I think it goes without saying that the Holidays have enough drama as it is, and you should see a movie that is uplifting rather than depressing. I have five great movies for you to watch if you want some holiday cheer! As an added bonus, these are all Christmas-themed movies! YAY! 😉

Note: These are in no particular order, but feel free to tell us which movies are the best in the comments!

1. Christmas Vacation

What would your holiday be like without Chevy Chase in one of the best Christmas comedies EVER MADE? This one is so good my family watches it every year. It never gets old!

Why it cheers you up: You get to watch someone else’s holiday get ruined by a ton of weird and zany incidents, which I would take any day over those events happening to my holiday in real life!

Will Ferrell stars as Buddy, an adopted son of elves who has left the North Pole to find his real father in New York City. Classic.

Why it cheers you up: First off, this is a hilarious and really original plot as far as the combination of a man who thinks he’s an elf meets the big city. Add in Will Ferrell and you are sure to have a great time!

When the real Santa is startled on the roof and falls to his death, it’s up to the skeptical Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) to take over the old elf’s job. He learns that it’s not as easy as the old guy made it look!

Why it cheers you up: Through the events in the movie, the father and son grow closer together than they ever would have been. Touching, but not depressing!

You may not immediately think of it as a Christmas movie, but it is! A kid who’s left behind in the family rush to travel for the holidays fights off a gang of burglars with wit and household supplies.

Why it cheers you up: Home Alone is a great example of how to turn a bad situation into a good one, especially around the holidays. That’s something that is always great in my opinion.
