Dodgeball

Intro

When Average Joe’s Gym faces bankruptcy and then default, and owner Peter La Fleur (Vince Vaughn) learns that his competitor Globo Gym and its owner White Goodman (Ben Stiller) are waiting to snap up the property and turn it into a new parking garage; Peter and his bizarre group of regulars, aided by their new-found partner Kate Veach (Christine Taylor) play in a Dodgeball Tournament for the Grand Prize and keep Average Joe’s alive. The only problem is that White and the Globo Gym powerhouse are in the tournament also.

Dialogue

I don’t know anyone who has not laughed when watching this movie. It seems that every line has some form of comedy, and there are many classic, quotable, and easily recognized quotes from the movie like:

  • “If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball!”
  • “You look like a bunch of retards trying to hump a doorknob out there!”

You will die from laughter, and it will be a shame if you haven’t gotten to see any other of the comedy films I have reviewed (and reviewing right now!)
Acting

The duo of Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn once again proves to be classic. The intensity of the players on the court, cameo appearances by William Shatner, Chuck Norris, and Lance Armstrong, as well as the behavior off the court helped to make this movie one-of-a-kind.

Plot

The plot of Dodgeball was both original and funny. There are vey few movies these days that are original, but films like Dodgeball are a nice reminder that there is still some creativity in Hollywood

Music

The music in the movie was well chosen and placed. Classics like ‘Apache’ added to the enjoyment and hilarity of the film.

Overall

This has to be one of the funniest movies I have ever seen, as well as one of the most original. There is no way that you have not already seen this movie – it frequently airs on TV, and the DVD can be found for less than $20.
